There was a fine peak in Europe in 2002. Few say
that we saw 3 peaks. It was more or less a fireball event, of course not
like the 1998 event but pretty nice though. Next Leonid storm in 2099
:-). |

DL5GAC, JN47ut Hello friends, again the Leonid-shower was a very nice event. EA6VQ, JM19hn had a lot of fun this morning during the peak of the shower. G4HGI, IO83pl Shower peak not family friendly ! couldnt work USB until 0730 however when dtr went qrt then I used WSJT for the first time in a shower.Pleased with the results and congratulations to the small number of cq callers using CQ(freq) ie CQ385 this worked very well. However some Big Guns who didnt use this system made life a misery for others by calling on 370 for long periods. HB9DFG,
JN37sm Hello dear VHF-Enthusiasts While last years Leonids have been better than expected, this years Leonids seemed to be totally different. Ok, everybody expected a storm but I just believe it was a good short shower this time, about ten times less than compared with all predictions made in the past. I made much more contacts last year, this years result looks a little smaller. I missed a lot because of QRM or weaker bursts, maybe next time again. I am not yet familiar with WSJT mode but maybe I will start with it once in the future. All following contacts I made in SSB during one-burst- conditions with 400w and a 7el from JN37sm: 19.11. 01.19 SM1A 39 59 JO97FK 1324 19.11. 02.18 EW1RZ 37 27 KO33SV 1569 #300 (tnx!) 19.11. 02.23 OH5LK 37 37 KP30ON 1922 ODX 19.11. 03.54 EA6FB 37 37 JM08PV 1084 |

Please contact me if one is wrong! Remember that a lot of clusters offer this fine function "sh/vhf <call>" and we should even use this function as well! So please try it and if it works you don't have to use "sh/ann/f" for asking in the future! For next years they don't predict a storm, so please watch out carefully! ;-) |
IZ1BPN, JN35vg Hello VHfers, I am still with a little bit of disappointment regarding this storm predicted shower. I was there from 22z on 18 Nov to 12z on 19 Nov. and I worked more or less an half of stations I worked last year in 4 hours (when no storm was predicted). It seems that a common rule should be : " when a great event is strongly expected you can be sure that nothing will happen ". NE0P,
EM04to Well the predictions were a little off. As I remember, most predictions said that this storm was going to be better than last years. Not even close, at least at my QTH. Wonder if anyone in North America hit storm levels. I did manage to work 2 new grids on 6 meters, and 1new grid on 2 meters. Even tried 2 FSK441 skeds on 70cm. The first one copied both calls, but I gotnothing from him, and the second copied partial calls, but again, nothing received here. Need to find a preamp for 432, I guess. The burns were strong when they were in, but they were few and far between. I did have a 5 minute period of constant scatter conditions on 6 around 0830Z. Worked 6 or 7 stations in that time period, and even had a pileup going. Heard some loud burns from K4QI, K9MRI, and K4ZOO as late as 1500Z. Was still getting good pings on WSJT at that time, but they seemed to be one way rocks as AF4O could not copy my signal. I was getting pings from him every sequence, and we are using the same antenna and similar levels of power (100 w vs. 180 w). Well hope someone had good conditions. Lets hope for a good Geminids!! 73s John NE0P EM04to |

NX7U,
DM43di I am not an experienced MS operator, but my Perseids experience was definitely better. Here I have a small station: only 11 elements at 20ft and about 80W at the antenna for 2m, preamp at the antenna. Stns attempted=10 Stns with some copy=6 Stns completed=2 New grids=1 Best distance=1837km (DM43di-EN30ll) The highlight was definitely around 1030Z, while I was working K7UV on a short N-S path, where the pings were running about 6-8 per 30 second sequence, most about 80ms, and occasional sequences with 20-25 second burns. But that seemed to last only about 15 minutes. Heard several very clear SSB pings from DM78. Judging from the traffic on PJ it would seem that intermediate N-S and NE-SW paths were best. Surprisingly I seem to have much bigger ears than mouth. Gotta get that 4CX250 amp finished, and replace the 120 feet of RG-213 with some 7/8" hardline! |

PA0JMV, JO21pm Hi friends, Nice Leonids shower observed, but not as spectacular as predicted....I was QRV between 18Nov 20.00 UTC and 19Nov 13.00 UTC and of course in the 2 days before the shower. Most interesting things have been worked before Leonids started: the GREAT DXpeditions by the OH8K team and the exped. by OH6HFX. THANKS AGAIN boys for another great job!! Best reflections observed 19Nov 0400-0510 UTC, second "peak" between 0630-0700 UTC and the last one 1000-1100 UTC, The 04-05 peak was the very best with long reflections and far distances !! (10-11 UTC was just a "local-Europe" party, hi (800-1300 km). I was hunting for new grids and I worked all (3) possible new grids for a total of 748 grids now:-)))) (Great! Ed.) Some 30 European DXCCC have been heard (did not bother to call everybody...) and 20 DXCC worked. I wanted to stay in good harmony with my neighbors so I did not call CQ :-)) (but the new PA is running fine...) Score is 38 complete QSO's (random only) , 3 stations beyond the magic 2000 km (ODX 2225 km) and 10 stations beyond 1750 km (the others were "locals", hihi). I did not hear ANY activity in HSCW, until appr. 0300 UTC there was ONLY an enormous flock of FSK441-stations messing up at 144.370 and from 0300 on, I did not monitor .370 anymore. I must admit that FSK441 from a technical point of view really works fine now (changed SB-card in my PC) but the real thrill still is **hearing** and human decoding..... I am SAD that HSCW has gone, like in this years Perseids shower. Hope to see all of you in 2099 in the next leonids (NO skeds yet pse), and maybe before that during coming weekends ARRL EME contest !! Best 73, Joop PA0JMV, homepage www.planet.nl/~pa0jmv |

PE1GNP,
JO31ix Nice shower, difficult to work stations with 50w, 13 ele. Hearing the big guns in this area working dupes again and again. Here wkd 9 stations no dupe wkd. T94DU, EA6/DL6SAQ, EA6/DL1GGT, EA6/DL1SAN, EI2CA/P, HA6ZB, HA8V, SM5CUI, YO3FFF/P. Wkd T9 for #48 and 4 new squares. Stations who dont work between 190-210 were easy to work, because some only listen around 200. Loudest burst hrd from OH5LK, EA3DXU, I8MPO, TK5EP, EW1EW. Hope activity also this big in perseids and good luck in geminids nice shower for hscw/wsjt!! GL Jan |

TK5EP,
JN41iw Hi All, All in all, a good shower for me. I've made 150 complete QSOs, plus several which have been made twice in the pileups. I did'nt look for new squares and DXCC, as i prefer to offer TK and JN41 to a many people as possible. So not too many new #. I have had a loooooonng burst up to 6 min !! INCREDIBLE. Also a lot of short distance QSOs and side scatter. Worked my first WSJT QSOs.... not very impressed by the S/N ratio. far less what i was expecting. No CW QSO, i called several times on .100, but NIL. At the same time 144.370 was very busy... Times are changing ! 73, Patrick Patrick EGLOFF TK5EP po box 223 20179 Ajaccio - France http://tk5ep.free.fr |
